Greetings CNO

US Flagge Chief of Naval Operations

15. February 1960

My dear Commander Obermaier:

On the occasion of the transfer of USS DYSON (DD-572) to the Federal Republic of Germany, and her commissioning in your Navy as ZERSTÖRER FIVE, the off officers and men of the United States Navy join me in extending best wishes to you and the entire crew.

Destroyers occupy a most important part in the overall composite of sea power which is indispensable to the defense of the free world. Your ship will undoubtedly be assigned to many important tasks in support of this defense. I am sure that the manner in which these tasks are carried out will be one of the decisive factors for the success of your mission. The successful employment of ZERSTÖRER FIVE is a major responsibility which is confidently placed in your hands and on the shoulders of the ships crew.

May fair winds, calm seas and Gods help be
with you in the many tasks that lie ahead.

Sincerely,

ARLIEGH BURKE
